<image:caption>On May 12th, 1967, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to speak at Wausau, Wisconsin. It was part of “Center Week,” held at the end of the semester by the Marathon County Center University (UWSP at Wausau), which featured speakers and programs on a number of topics. But certainly the most important and memorable speaker at the “convocation” over the program’s life has been the participation of Martin Luther King Jr.</image:caption>

<image:caption>By the 1910s, it was apparently expected the the horseshoers would be bring their wives to the convention. August Unruh, president of Wisconsin's MHPAA association, noted in his speech at the 1915 convention noted that "it is now practically necessary for each horseshoer to bring his wife, or else a black mark will be made against him."</image:caption>

Over the course of the convention, LaCerte was apparently one of several locals who provided entertainment for the visitors. An account of the many musical performances mentioned LaCerte himself performed the songs, "I Love You Truely," "Elaine," and "When I was a Dreamer."</image:caption>
