Timber! A Northwoods Story of Lumberjacks, Logging, and the Land
Susan Apps Bodilly’s presentation returns you to when towering white pines covered the land in northern Wisconsin. Through the cold winter months, loggers worked to fell trees to pile on the riverbanks. In the spring, river drivers moved the logs to saw mills. Her talk explores the story of Wisconsin’s legging boom, the devastation is caused, and the extraordinary efforts to restore the cutover land and sustainably. She describes letters, postcards, and other primary sources from the time designed to inspire creativity and critical-thinking skills. She will encourage you to think about the importance of trees and forests in our communities, with time for story-sharing at the end.
