The story of a specific audiometer in our collection. Used by Helen in Ohio (?). It was part of the industrial nursing program started by Employers Mutual of Wausau, and specifically shows the development of concerns over hearing loss in the workplace.

An Audiometer

This is the audiometer in use, as shown in an issue of “Good People” the EM company newsletter. It shows industrial nurses using it to test the hearing of an employee. This was pretty advanced stuff… created beeps and stuff to test if the person could hear good or not. Just filling space, I’ll write this all later. Or maybe this isn’t a great story for the intended audience? Will have to figure it out at a future date.

Industrial nurses like Helen Oynette in Indianapolis used audiometers as a service for companies that had policies with them. Over Helen’s time with Employers Mutual, Helen would travel

Later the piece of equipment was transfered to the Wausau headquarters, as part of a collection of lab equipment technology. And in the 2000s, MCHS was given a large collection of items and records from Wausau Insurance, including this audiometer.
