Background:

Mylrea was located about 2 miles east of Marathon City. The P.O. was probably named after the Mylrea who was a partner in Mylrea & Bird Lumber and Bardeen & Mylrea Lumber.

Descendents of one of Max Kolbe's brothers founded Kolbe & Kolbe, one of today's largest producers of custom windows and doors. Max Kolbe's descendents still own the homestead that housed the post office.
