Background:

Naugart was named after Naugard in Pomerania, Germany, the homeland of many of Berlin Twp's earliest settlers. In 1852, August Schmidt bought the northern 200 acres of section where later the store and post office of Naugart were located at the intersection of Naugart Drive and Berlin Ln.

A school and church were soon located at the same intersection area.

About The Post Office:

P. O. located SW1/4 Section 15 in Berlin Twp. was closed on August 31, 1940 with mail service from Hamburg.



Churches:

St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church - organized on March 11, 1861

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church - organized on March 16, 1868

 



Business:

In 1886, Diedrich Hasche opened a store and saloon at the intersection of Naugart.

On March 16, 1908 the Naugart Telephone Co. was organized.
