Background:

Including a small area in Taylor County, Gad had a lumber mill, and even a post office. 

Stories:

Emil Paur, a native of the Gad area, said that once some men were digging a well and found gold on his grandfather's farm about a mile away.  They tried mining the shaft for about 2 years, but it was more costly than it was worth so they folded.  Although that happened, probably in the 1880s, the story remains alive in Gad through the oral history of all who grew up there.
