WACI

Wausau Accessory Company, Inc. (WACI)

In 1989, Mike and Patricia Tatro founded a company to produce between-glass, metal Venetian blinds. Mike had previously worked for Wausau Metals, where he learned the ropes of the window business (in addition to being a notable pitcher for their slow-pitch softball team).

The company was originally in a building built off 10th Street in Wausau, just north of Townline Road. But as the company found success in the industry, they quickly outgrew the location, and built new facilities in the West Industrial Park in 1993. The new building on Bayberry Street has been the home for the company ever since. (the first building on 10th Street became the home for Republic Industries-AMS by 1994).

Although the products made by WACI have changed slightly over the years to reflect the changes in the industry, the core of their business has been their 'between-glass, metal Venetian blinds.' These products are sold directly to other window manufacturers, and generally used in schools and hospitals.
